Happy Christmas
December 23rd, 2007 EggheadHappy Christmas to all my readers!
Happy Christmas to all my readers!
Gonzo has asked some pertinent questions of feminists that I think should be spread far and wide. So, with his permission, I am reproducing his post here.
Recently a couple major feminist bloggers ran around the “How much prison time would you give a woman who had an abortion?” question.
Good one. How about answering a couple of mine (Since, “Of course, that is wrong, but…”):
1) What penalty should a woman who makes a false accusation of rape recieve?
2) What penalty should a woman who makes a false accusation of Domestic violence/child abuse/child molestation in order to win advantage in a divorce/custody proceeding recieve?
3) Given that a woman knows she is sleeping with multiple men, does she have a duty to inform a putative father of that if she turns up pregnant? If no, why not?
3a) Also, if no, since she is aware that it is possible that more than one man may be the father of a baby, how is it not fraud if she positively identifies him as the father, and does not tell the “whole truth?”
4) If yes, given that she is aware that more than one man may be the father of a baby, if she identifies a man as a father, and it turns out he isn’t, this is fraud – what penalty should she recieve for committing fraud?
5) Is biology or “acting like a father” the ultimate determinate of paternity?
5a) If Biology, how do we justify forcing men who are victims of paternity fraud to continue to pay child support?
5b) If “acting like a father” how do we justify forcing biological fathers who have never acted like a father to pay child support?
5c) If your answer is “it depends” chances are “The good of the child” will be brought up. Does your “What the child needs” intersect with “what makes it easy on Mommy?”
I’m not really expecting any feminists to actually answer any of these, but are posted here to demonstrate that they, too, are chicken.
To be perfectly honest, I’m more interested in getting the average person in our society to ponder what their answers to these questions should be than in hearing what an ideological feminist would say.
This example of Political Correctness Run Amok™ makes me simply livid. I sincerely hope that this results in national media attention and outrage against the school in question and the Orlando police in particular. These actions against this girl are just asinine. Not only is this supposed “felony” a violation of the girl’s 2nd amendment rights, the charge is factually wrong, too. A knife is a tool, not a weapon.
Anyway, here’s the story:
Student Arrested After Cutting Food With Knife
10-Year-Old Charged With Possession Of Weapon On School PropertyPOSTED: 3:40 pm EST December 14, 2007
UPDATED: 4:08 pm EST December 14, 2007An elementary student in Marion County was arrested Thursday after school officials found her cutting food during lunch with a knife that she brought from home, police said.
The 10-year-old girl, a student at Sunrise Elementary School in Ocala, was charged possession of a weapon on school property, which is a felony.
According to authorities, school employees spotted the girl cutting her food while she was eating lunch and took the steak knife from her.
The girl told sheriff’s deputies that she had brought the knife to school on more than one occasion in the past.
Students told officials that the girl did not threaten anyone with the knife.
The girl was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
I’m asking any readers – bloggers or otherwise – help spread this story around… to the national media, your local media, friends, family, neighbors… Anyone who might help make this a public relations nightmare for that school and the Orlando police.
You know, sometimes I feel quite sorry for our British brothers. I applaud their attempt to help out men, but not their means (increasing government). But anyway, the backstory.
British MRA’s sent around a petition asking the Prime Minister to create the position of “Minister for Men,” to balance out the earlier creation of a “Minister for Women.” Well, the petition was sent to the government (Brit-speak for administration) and the government replied to the petitioners with this missive:
Minister-for-men – epetition reply
7 December 2007
We received a petition asking:
“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to restore equality for men by creating a minister for men.”
Details of Petition:
“In this era of single parents, divorce and blended families, the role and reputation of a man has been diluted to a point where he is severely discriminated against in almost all arenas. I call on the Prime Minister to show true equality to men by creating a Minister for Men to reflect balance in Parliament as Ruth Kelly is currently the Minister for Women.”
The Government’s response
Thank you for your e-petition about the creation of a Minister for Men. Though the Government recognises that there are areas where men face disadvantage or discrimination, a glance at the income and poverty figures will show that, overall, inequality in our society affects women to a far greater extent than men. That is why the Government appointed a Cabinet Level Minister for Women in 1997 whose remit was, and is, to promote equality of opportunity in our society. The current holder of this office is Harriet Harman QC, MP and she is supported by Barbara Follett MP.
Despite the passing of the Equal Pay and Sex Discrimination legislation over 30 years ago, and other improvements since 1997, women in Britain still experience significant disadvantage in our society. For example:
- Women account for over half of the United Kingdom’s population, but only make up 19% of MPs and 29% of local councillors.
- Black, Asian and Ethnic minority women account for 8% of the UK’s female population but make up less than 1% of local councillors.
- Only 10.3% of the directors in the boardrooms of the top 100 FTSE companies are female;
- The gap between the pay of male and female workers is currently 12.6% for full time and a staggering 40% for part-timers.
- Women are the main victims of domestic violence in the UK and 83 of them are killed by their partners or ex-partners in 2005.
- Women still shoulder the lion’s share of caring for the old and the young and 90.5% of lone parents are female.
However, the Government recognises that men do want to spend more time with their families and this is reflected in the action we have taken to improve work life balance. That is why, in 2003, we introduced the right to request flexible working for all parents with children of under six years old or with disabled children of under eighteen years old. In April this year this right was extended to include people who care for adults.
Our Government is determined to fight discrimination and ensure everybody in Britain can make the most of their talents regardless of their gender, race, sexuality, age, faith or disability and we are committed to tackling these inequalities to create our vision of a fairer society and the role of Minister for Women is crucial in delivering our aims.
The Government have established the new Equality and Human Rights Commission which will champion equality, diversity, and human rights as defining values of our society, encouraging all our institutions to operate for the benefit of every individual.
Harriet Harman will be working across Government with Ministerial colleagues to ensure that we deliver on this ambitious agenda.
Did you notice that three of the “facts” they use to support their position are out-and-out lies, and that the rest are due to women’s own choices (Don’t women keep going on about “Freedom of Choice?”) and not some sort of patriarchal oppression?
A little message to British men:
The Labour government hates you. You are only useful to it insofar as it can make you pay for everyone else in society.
I’m pretty sure there’s a revolution coming, and that it will shake the entire western world. I just wonder on which side of the pond it’s going to start.
I have a few questions that should be very easy for supporters of the current way of doing things to answer – if they’re not ashamed of the answers. Here is what I’d lke to ask:
If child support payments are intended to be spent on things the child needs, then
This past summer, I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, which is a common sports injury. It is an inflammation of the strong connective tissue running from the heel to the toes along the bottom of the foot. The treatment requires rest, stretching, and shoes which give the proper support. For me, this means running shoes. I’ve got two pairs of running shoes, one black, which isn’t very comfortable, and one white, which works very well for me.
Imagine my surprise, then, when I stumbled across the following article:
Knights in White Shoes
By Anthony Buono
I have had a very interesting six months in my research about what men and women want. By shear (and amusing) coincidence, I have had about a dozen women mention guys and (believe it or not) their shoes. Specifically, they have all commented on their negative impression of guys in white tennis shoes when dressed casually or on a date.
Being a guy, I never gave a thought about the effects of shoes on the process of finding a spouse. But as we all well know, first impressions mean a lot, and apparently white tennis shoes leave a poor first impression.
On our most recent Ave Maria Singles cruise to the Caribbean, I brought this up several times to different ladies as we were all socializing. To one woman I said “I want to ask you something….I have been hearing a lot about guys and shoes lately and…”, then she interrupted me and said “Let me guess…white tennis shoes!” With bulging eyes I said “Yes, how did you know?”. She laughed loud and proceeded right into her stories about guys and white tennis shoes.
To another circle of women I said “Tell me something, have any of you ever had a problem dealing with guys and white tennis shoes?” Eyes rolled and laughing began. They, too, quickly started in with their stories. The stories varied but had the same root conclusion; namely, that this is yet another aspect of how men and women different when they are looking for a companion.
I cannot deny there is something for men to learn from this amusing antidote. Is it that white tennis shoes are evil and should be shunned from society? No! Certainly not. Even the ladies who shared their stories agreed it is not the shoes themselves.
The main point is that women form first impressions based on different things that men base them on. For example, women look at a man’s shoes. Why? The outward presentation is a strong “symbol” to women of what is going on inside. Having white tennis shoes on with casual dress sends a message that he really is not aware that women find the white tennis shoe to represent a sense of being out of touch with the current trends. And if he isn’t paying attention to something as simple as what is on his feet, then would he really know how to be in touch with what women are looking for in today’s men? Thus, the women’s perspective of it.
Does that mean it’s true? No, of course not. Men do care about themselves and what women are looking for. They just don’t concern themselves with dress codes and coordinating fashion, etc. Guys don’t judge other guys by what they are wearing. But women judge other women this way. Why? Because women are “sold” on the concept of non-verbal communication through things like what people wear. Women have the gift of quick intuition. So they can quickly understand who a person is as a whole just by what is communicated non-verbally on the outside.
I think this is the main point for guys to learn. If you want to win the heart of a woman, don’t let your non-verbal communication distract her from learning more about who you are and what you truly want to say. In other words, be more careful and selective about your outward appearance. It might not matter to you, or other guys, but it definitely matters to women. And since you objective is to find the woman you will marry, you just might be an obstacle to her being initially interested because of you lack of concern for what you wear.
White tennis shoes with casual wear are a toxic combination to women. That is a fact based on my research. It’s not a matter of arguing whether is “should” be that way or whether it really matters. Just accept it and act accordingly. After all, you do want to get to a second date, don’t you?
I understand that these women, like most human beings, are superficial. They make first impressions based on their own prejudices and biases. So, they may be harshly judging men in white tennis shoes similarly to the way I harshly judge women who have tattoos over their ass-cracks, and jewelry in their navels. That being said, however, I have to wonder, where do these women come off judging people by their footware when they run around wearing flip-flops everywhere they go? They even wear flip-flops going to meet the President of the United States at the White House, for heaven’s sake! They have no sense of propriety, and yet they have the temerity – no the gall – to criticize men on the basis of footwear! What a joke.
On the other hand, I’m mostly bothered by this out of compassion for younger guys who are still under the impression that they need to date and eventually marry one of these young women. For myself, I have no intention of ceasing to wear my white tennis shoes. In fact, I think that when these wear out, I’ll go out and buy myself some more white tennis shoes. I also have no intention of seeking out any new relationships. If they find me, that’s fine, but I’m not looking!
Update: The gift of quick intuition? Sounds like a euphemism for being a judgement a**hole, to me. I certainly wouldn’t call it a gift.
